Several agencies and organizations come together each year to protect the beaches of Presque Isle State Park.
On Wednesday morning, they got a first-hand look at how their efforts are helping to improve the shores for years to come.
This year’s nourishment project wrapped up just a couple of weeks ago and officials are optimistic about the state parks future.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were out early Wednesday morning taking a look at the condition of the beaches after this year’s nourishment.

Officials gather information every fall and spring giving them the opportunity to evaluate sand levels around the shore.
“We placed about 44,000 cubic yards of new beach sand out on the beaches. It’s a little higher than the long-term averages, we usually shoot for about 38,000 to 39,000 cubic yards so were 10% to 15% above,” said Weston Cross, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District.
