An autopsy was performed Friday morning on skeletal remains found in Millcreek Township on Thursday.
However, officials said there’s a long way to go before they find out what happened.
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said the human remains were found in Walnut Creek behind a church in the 900 block of Millcreek Mall Boulevard.
Cook told JET 24/FOX 66 on Friday that they examined what little tissue remained on the body and ruled out some causes of death.
He added that the body hasn’t been identified yet but believes they’re closing in on naming the gender of the victim.
Cook explained they’ll be working with Mercyhurst University’s forensic team to analyze the remains and make further connections in the case.
