Erie set for big political weekend with JD Vance, Bernie Sanders visits

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA ( WJET/WFXP ) — Erie is getting ready to welcome Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) this weekend.

There are only 11 days until the general election, and both parties are looking to make up the minds of Erie voters, specifically, voters they may feel are on the fence.

While the location of Sen. Sanders’ appearance hasn’t been announced yet, Sen. Vance (R-Ohio) will be heading to Penn State Behrend.

The goal? To win over certain demographics of voters in Erie.

“Nobody knows who is going to win. It’s a coin-flip,” said Jeff Bloodworth, professor of American political history at Gannon University.

Erie continues to be an epicenter of politics in Pennsylvania and the country with visits expected from two massive political figures.

Sanders and Vance will be speaking practically at the same time as one another on Saturday.

“What I see here I’ve never seen before, it’s the amount of excitement and the amount of concern that voters have with regard to this campaign,” said Tom Eddy, Erie County Republican Party.
