As Election Day approaches, local organizations aim to encourage voter participation

With the election just a few weeks away, local organizations are taking to neighborhoods to encourage people to get out and vote.

The Erie PA Mobilization took place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The community gathered at Rodger Young Park for music, food, vendors and voter registration education.

The event focused on encouraging local voters to get excited for the upcoming election.

“We’re here to get folks talking about the election come November 5th and we’re meeting folks where they’re at. We understand that we got to throw gatherings like this to get out folks excited, just to start those conversations about the election,” said Kallel Edwards, state organizing manager for Black Voters Matter.

“Their vote is their voice. We’re trying to get them to say something and so we’re rallying people in our neighborhood today,” said Gary Horton, with the Urban Erie Community Corporation.
