Coroner rules Erie woman’s death a homicide after a week in a coma

A 63-year-old Erie woman has died after a week of being in a coma, but what put her in that coma has the Erie County Coroner ruled her death a homicide.

According to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook, 63-year-old Phyllis Walburn died on Thursday after she was attacked by a relative on Oct. 23.

Cook said Walburn was bedridden and had a variety of significant medical conditions.

A relative came to her house on Stanley Avenue and was discovered pouring water on her disconnecting her oxygen.

Walburn was taken to the hospital but was comatose the entire time, where she later passed away.

Police responded to the scene and took the family member responsible into custody but their name has not been released at this time.
