Cathedral Prep girls, Grove City boys win 2nd PIAA cross country team titles in 3 years

Cathedral Prep’s girls and Grove City’s boys were Class 2A team champions for Saturday’s PIAA cross country meet.

There’s a reason that should sound familiar. Those programs also finished first for that particular class during the state’s 2022 meet, which also was held at Hershey.

The Ramblers, led by juniors Anne-Catherine Brown and Fina Bannister, totaled 118 points atop the 2A girls standings after the last runner crossed Parkview Cross Country Course’s finish line. District 4 Lewisburg (151) was second.

Brown, 12th overall at 19 minutes, 31 seconds, and Bannister (18th at 19:46) also were individual state medalists who formerly experienced Saturday’s scenario as varsity freshmen.

“There’s a lot of the same girls here from (the 2022 team),” Brown said, “but I know this was really special for the underclassmen.”

Sophomore Makayla Stutts (20:31), freshman Zita Schiedel (21:00) and senior Allison Bender (21:05) also recorded points for Prep.

Bender validated Colgate University’s interest in her for its cross country and track and field programs. Last month, she verbally committed to Hamilton, New York, school.
