In September, Bill Hale, the director of the Mercyhurst Police Academy, met with police chiefs across the region to brainstorm the enhancement of recruitment and retention. Hale and officials in police departments across the region have seen the number of people getting into law enforcement decrease in recent years. There are more than 1,200 openings for municipal officer positions in Pennsylvania this year.
