A $37.5 million project has reached completion of its first phase at one local high school.
We first got an inside tour of the building a couple of months ago and since then, construction workers have turned it into something completely different.
“We really needed it. It was time and maybe passed time to get it done,” said Tom Kirdahy, tech ed teacher at McDowell High School.

The lower level — which includes their tech education and family and consumer science programs as well as their lunch room — was completely dismantled and remodeled with state-of-the-art spaces.
Project manager James Spaeder highlighted the installation of the dust collection system that partners with the shop equipment, improving the work environment for students.
“When they start a machine, the dust collector will turn on automatically and such. All the particulates,” said James Spaeder, project manager at WM. T. Spaeder company. “It filters it through a machine and then it will actually supply hot air back into the building.”
