SHARON – The Corry girls volleyball team took on the motto “We belong here” throughout the past few decades.
On Saturday, the Beavers proved they belong among the top teams in the state.
Corry rallied from a two-set deficit to beat state-ranked Richland in five thrilling sets 23-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-13 in the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals at Sharon High School.
“Richland is a very good team. They have a 6-foot 1-inch middle and a 6-foot outside and have a very good team” said Corry coach Kelly Goodsel. “This is a very simple game. If we serve and pass better than they do, we’re going to win and if we don’t we’re going to lose. It came down to the fifth set between two really good teams and it was fun.”
Corry (18-1) moves on to the PIAA semifinals on Tuesday against Cathedral Prep (17-5) with a trip to the state championhip on the line.
The Ricland size and impressive serving proved to be an issue for Corry in the first two sets. The Beavers hung tough in two sets that neither team had a lead of more than three points, but the Rams took a 2-0 lead.
