Probe ongoing in Halloween night accident that seriously injured pedestrian in east Erie

Erie police are continuing their investigation into a car-pedestrian accident in an eastside neighborhood on Halloween night that seriously injured a 38-year-old woman.

The accident was reported on Oct. 31 at about 7:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 37th Street. According to Erie police, the woman entered the roadway between parked vehicles mid-block when she was struck by a 2003 Acura that was traveling west on East 37th Street.

The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment, said Sgt. Thomas Dunmire, an Erie police accident investigator.

Dunmire said a 59-year-old man who was driving the Acura stopped in the 1200 block of East 37th Street after the accident and is cooperating in the investigation. The man told police he was driving when he experienced sudden acceleration and was applying the brakes, but couldn’t stop, Dunmire said.

Erie police impounded the man’s car and performed an inspection on it as part of the ongoing investigation, he said.
