The Waterford community came together to celebrate bringing a historic landmark back to life.
Friday night was the grand re-opening celebration of the iconic Niemeyer Bridge.
The structure deteriorated over the years and was shut down by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 2011.
It was originally built in 1875 making it a unique spot for the region with its design.

We talked to one resident about the significance this brings to their community.
“It’s an important part of the community. It fell down, it was falling apart because it was so old. Having the community get together, put money back into it and come together, that’s special. That’s where you find that purpose in the community coming together for a very specific purpose,” said Darrell Owens, Waterford resident/veterans advocate.
The National Register of Historic Places listed the bridge in 1980.
