For some local businesses, the winter storm couldn’t have hit at a worse time.
Heavy snow forced local stores like Werner Books on Liberty Street to close their doors, missing out on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.
“We’ve been preparing for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday for the last few weeks as every business does, but especially the small businesses. We ended up having to close early on Friday and I think we had maybe three customers in before we had to make that call,” said Ash Carr, Werner Books & Coffee.
Carr said the store stayed closed until Monday for safety concerns.
And even though they missed out on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday was rescheduled, and Carr said it was their biggest sales day of the year.
“We like to say that there is no such thing as a bookstore emergency, so as stressful as it is, we’re going to be okay,” said Carr.
In addition to the bookstore, local restaurants like Harbor House on Buffalo Road were also starting to get back in the swing of things.
