The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that the Route 72 (Ebenezer Road) bridge spanning Swatara Creek between Jonestown Road in Union Township and New Bunker Hill Road in Swatara Township is expected to open to traffic on Thursday, Dec. 12.
This project consisted of replacing the existing structure, minor roadway reconstruction, guide rail improvements, and drainage improvements. The bridge was closed in April for replacement.
Officials said that the detour currently in place will be lifted once the bridge is reopened.
“Temporary traffic control measures implemented at two locations during the closure will return to pre-project conditions,” officials said in a release Tuesday. “A four-way stop condition at the intersection of Route 72 and Thompson Avenue will return to a two-way stop condition with stop signs situated at both approaches on Thompson Avenue, and no stop signs at the Route 72 approaches.”
A temporary traffic signal placed at the intersection of Market Street and Lancaster Street in Jonestown Borough to assist with traffic flow will be removed, officials said. The intersection will return to a two-way stop condition with stop signs situated at both Lancaster Street approaches, and no stop signs at the Market Street approaches.
