City of Erie Fire Department adds 16 new members to its ranks

Being a firefighter is an important profession, but it’s not always easy.

Now, 16 Members are accepting the challenge and have joined the City of Erie Fire Department.

These members have taken classes, studied and tested for a chance to be a member of the department.

Many don’t look at this as just a job, but an opportunity.

“Joining the fire department would not be a bad choice. Pursue your dreams and this is what I’ve been wanting to do since I was a kid,” said Charles Bowers, Engine 8, 1st platoon, City of Erie Fire Department.

Erie native Charles Bowers has always desired to carry on his family’s tradition of public service.

He, along with 15 others, has achieved a major milestone and has been welcomed by the City of Erie Fire Department family.

Officials and family members honored the new hires during a swearing-in ceremony at city hall Thursday morning.
