North East family displaced after fire destroys home two weeks before Christmas

A North East family is devastated after a late-morning fire destroys their home just two weeks before Christmas.

Fortunately, none of the residents were hurt but they lost a lot on Friday, including a beloved pet.

“I was at work and he called me and he said, ‘Mom the house is on fire again,’” said Kaitlyn Crist, fire victim.

Kaitlyn Crist’s 17-year-old son was at home when a fire broke out in their home on 2242 Gay Road in North East at about 11 a.m. on Dec. 13.

Sadly, the renters’ pet cat perished in the blaze.

Crist, her four children and boyfriend, Nathan Burnham, have lived in the house since October 2023. This is the second fire they’ve experienced here and now they’ve lost their home for the holidays.

“When the first fire happened, they had a really hard time going to sleep because they were afraid it was going to happen again. And this time with it being in my youngest daughter’s bedroom, I can only imagine how it’s going to affect her,” said Crist.
