Skilled Workforce: Corry Career and Technical Center

Helping to meet the need for skilled workers in northwestern Pennsylvania is the Corry Career and Technical Center (CTC) and 180 students are enrolled in a variety of programs.

The Corry School District has its own career and technical center. And unlike many other school districts, here 40% of the student body is involved in career tech.

Why so many?

“Because it’s so convenient. The huge advantage that we have here in Corry, we are a smaller school but we are about 30 miles from Erie, Crawford or Warren County we just can’t, that’s two hours a day out of their school day busing them back and forth. So we’ve always had our own CTC program here,” said Nick Krasa, a vocational education supervisor.

And it’s growing, 180 Students participate in eight different career training pathways.

There are many career opportunities for young people to consider. One of the popular programs here is auto tech, training the next generation of auto mechanics.

Christopher Leek is in his third year of the auto tech program. He’s working a coop job at a local auto repair shop part of his school day. And thanks to what he’s learned here, his future plans seem to be clear.
