The Erie Police Department gave four local nonprofits donations totaling $8,000 Thursday as part of their no-shave-november fundraiser.
Under Police Chief Dan Spizarny, the police department has elected to relax their facial hair grooming policy during November in exchange for a one-time donation from officers who wish to participate.

The ANNA Shelter, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, the Mental Health Association and the Emmaus Ministries all received donations.
“Basically 100% of the officers participate now. We have no problem giving the donations and we pick great charities that help the city and help us out,” said William Marucci, deputy chief of Erie Police. “The presentation we did today were for the last two years so we had $8,000 in total. We picked four charities and donated $2,000 to each charity.”

It’s something that started out as November only but it’s carried on longer through the winter months if officers maintain their beards well.
