Erie’s newest citizens will begin the new year as new Americans.
Twenty people from 13 countries took the oath at the federal courthouse Friday morning with District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter presiding.
One new American, Maria Villamairn from Ecuador, discussed the process to prepare to become a u-s citizen and how it felt to take the oath.
“Working to get a citizenship, it was a little it was a little new. There were a lot of questions that I didn’t know, that I was not aware of. But it was a great journey. I was ready. I was thrilled, so super happy. And today being here is the best thing and is the best way to end the year,” said Villamairn.
After the ceremony, the new Americans received a goodie bag, and a table was set up to help them with voter registration.
