Embracing Our Veterans: 2024 year in review

For the past year, JET 24 Action News has been sharing the stories of formerly homeless military veterans who have been helped by a local non-profit called Embracing Our Veterans.

The organization got some financial help this year from LECOM Health

Now, Lou Baxter wraps up this year-long series and looks back at some of the veterans we met and how the community helps serve those who served.

Nearly a year ago we met Meadville Army veteran Cody McGraw, who spent time in Iraq inside an M1 Abrahams Army tank.

“I’m just glad I made it back. Not a lot of people did,” said McGraw.

Like so many veterans, he found himself struggling after his service and being homeless, but he sought help and got it from Embracing Our Veterans

“It’s very difficult for our military to ask for help, and I’m so proud of Cody because he was in a dark place and he decided that the better thing to do was to get on with his life.  Too often that doesn’t happen Lou, we lose our guys,” said Tina Schiefelbein, Embracing our Veterans.
