According to reports from the Dunkirk Observer, the Portland and Brocton Fire Departments responded to a fire around 5:10 a.m. Wednesday near the 100 block of Old Mill Road in Brocton.
The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was called in to investigate the fire’s origin, which they determined started in the basement ceiling.
After the fire was put out, a man was found deceased inside the home.
We reached out to the Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office for an official cause of death, but have not heard back from them yet.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the situation.
