Kwanzaa celebrations across the Erie community

Kids had the opportunity to learn about the meaning of Kwanzaa on Saturday morning.

Erie’s Black Wall Street was celebrating Kwanzaa at the Erie Children’s Museum.

Local Jewish community celebrates Hanukkah

On the third day of Kwanzaa, they explored the principle of Ujima, which means “collective work” and “responsibility.”

The organization prepared many family activities with the goal of learning how to make the community a better place.

“The one thing I hope that people take from the Kwanzaa celebration is celebrating African American culture and realizing that we are better when we’re working together and that each one of us plays a vibrant role in making Erie a better place,” said Kyra Taylor, executive director of Erie’s Black Wall Street.

‘”Ujima Lives Here” is also the theme of their third annual Greenlight Awards Gala, which will take place on Feb. 28.
