More lake-effect snow on the way: When snowfall will start, predicted accumulation

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland has issued a lake-effect snow warning for Erie starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday and continuing until 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Heavy lake-effect snow is expected to accumulate between two to three feet. The NWS states that winds are expected to reach as high as 40 mph.

Southern and eastern Erie County and northern Crawford County are predicted to receive higher snow accumulations.

Expect roads to become slick and hazardous making travel conditions hazardous.

A rainy New Year’s Eve turns to the start of lake-effect snow

Starting Wednesday at 2 p.m., Erie is predicted to see rain with winds up to nine miles per hour. Temperatures will reach a high near 46 degrees. Rain will continue throughout the night.

Rain will continue Wednesday night, with winds reaching up to 13 mph with gusts reaching 24 mph.

On New Year’s Day, snow showers are expected to start after 11 a.m. and between two and four inches of accumulating snow is in the forecast. Winds speeds reaching 22 mph and gusts of 39 mph are possible. The high temperature will be near 35 degrees.
