Charges dropped for Erie woman accused of starting 2023 house fire

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced they’ve dropped the charges against a woman accused of setting fire to an abandoned house that then spread to a neighboring home back in 2023.

That incident happened back on September 13, 2023 when Erie Police charged 36-year-old Virginia Flagella with arson, reckless burning and criminal trespass.

That fire destroyed a vacant building in the 700 block of Vine Street and damaged a neighbor’s house.

Erie Times News reported that the DA’s office decided to drop the charges against Flagella after a psychiatric evaluation determined she was not competent to stand trial.
