Erie residents, businesses ready for New Year’s Eve celebrations

This time tomorrow night most of us will be getting ready to ring in the new year.

New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest party nights of the year, and people all around Erie are getting the champagne ready.

New Year’s Eve is a time for people to leave the past behind and look forward to a brand new year.

And for many people, there’s no better way to kick off a new year than celebrating with family and friends.

“We’ll have a big party, so we’re going to have a lot of food and champagne and we’re going to celebrate,” said Sylvie Houde, an Erie resident.

New Year’s Eve is also one of the busiest nights for local bars, with hundreds of people planning to count down the last moments of 20-24 out on the town.

One woman went out on Monday for her 21st birthday and is planning on doing it all again for the new year.

“Probably the same thing, celebrating, drinking, yeah. I don’t know, just family, friends, hanging out,” said Sophia Phelps, a Millcreek resident.

A lot of the bars here on State Street are going to be packed come New Year’s Eve, but other people are going to be taking the opportunity to stay home for a little more lowkey night.
