New details given on 20-year-old victim in New Year’s shooting

We have an update on Erie’s first homicide of 2025 which claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman.

According to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook, the Erie victim — who has not yet been identified — was pronounced brain dead on Wednesday afternoon. He also told us an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of West 19th Street just after 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Investigators said a 19-year-old man was also shot in the leg during the incidents but he has been treated and released from the hospital.

No one has been taken into custody and police are continuing to investigate.
