The man who allegedly removed his mother from oxygen and dumped water on her is being blamed for her death.
Chad Walburn, 40, has been arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder.
Erie police investigate recent homicides, adding city’s total cases up to 5 in 2024
Walburn had been in police custody on charges including aggravated assault since the incident on October 23 in the 3800 block of Stanley Avenue.
Police said Walburn was responsible for the death of his bedridden mother, 63-year-old Phyllis Walburn.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook ruled her death a homicide in October.
“There was a lot of moving parts to this investigation so we just wanted to make sure that everything aligned with obviously the coroner’s report and our detectives’ investigation. At this point in time, the official coroner’s report is out listing it as a homicide and after conferring with the district attorney’s office, obviously, those charges were then filed,” said Rick Lorah, deputy chief of Erie Police.
