A gym in Millcreek Township that caters to the needs of children on the autism spectrum is celebrating its one-year anniversary.
Colleen Parson and her husband opened We Rock the Spectrum Children’s Gym in Lakewood Plaza because they wanted there to be a place where all families can feel welcome and included.

It’s the only such gym in the region. We Rock the Spectrum has padded physical therapy-grade equipment. Many therapists use the space to work on gross and fine motor skills with local children with special needs.
But Parson said there are plenty of opportunities for neuro-typical children to play as well and adds it’s all about inclusion.

“We’ve had kids in wheelchairs come and be on the swings. Like I said, we’ve had kids who are non-speaking do groups with kids who are speaking. It’s like they form their own little language sometimes once they get really close with these kids and know oh they may want this. It’s a great thing to see them all learn from one another,” Parson said…
