ERIE, PA – The low temperature dropped to near a record at Erie International this morning. The record low for the date is -7 below set back in 1970! The temperature dropped well below zero with wind chills in the -20 to -25 range this morning. The deep freeze continues today, although easing a little this afternoon. The wind chills for the afternoon should range between 0 to -5 below.

The sky will clear out nicely today, but the sun won’t help much as temperatures will struggle in the lower teens. You’ll want to take breaks to get inside and warm up if you need to be outdoors for an extended period. Frostbite can occur in 30-45 minutes in this caliber of cold air.

It will be mostly cloudy with temperatures rising into the 20s on Thursday. No big snow storms in sight, but light snow and flurries develop as the next system weak system glides to the North. Expect a clearing sky on Friday, then clouding up again on Saturday, followed by light snow and snow showers again on Sunday.

As far as snowfall is concerned, most will see a fresh coating to a few fluffy inches on Thursday and then again on Sunday. Stay tuned to Your Weather Authority for the latest on the forecast…
