Auto repair shops have been extremely busy this week, dealing with breakdowns and cars refusing to start in this bitter-cold weather.

Erie City Mission opens emergency warming shelter due to freezing temps.

Erie Batteries, Alternators & Starters was backed up, trying to service the high number of cars being driven or towed in. The owner said he’s seeing starter and alternator problems, but the majority are dead batteries due to the freezing temperatures.

“When the temperature drops, you need more cranking power to start your batteries so if your batter is starting to get on the edge usually this cold weather the battery is going to fail,” said Charley Matteson, part-owner of Erie Batteries, Alternators & Starters.
