When architecture and nature clash: Fallingwater undergoes $7M in repairs to protect its legacy

A massive three-year, $7 million repair project at Fallingwater is intended to fortify Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece for years to come.

The work was inevitable for the beloved structure where preservation leads: For almost 90 years, humidity, freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rain and snow have challenged the architectural gem.

The site remains open to tours, and visitors can’t miss the wraparound scaffolding currently enshrining the weekend residence designed in 1935 for department story magnate Edgar J. Kaufmann. Those scaffolds are slated to be removed around the second week of April, and the project is expected to wrap in March 2026…
