The beaches of Presque Isle will be filled soon, but more lifeguards are needed to keep them safe and staff are trying to keep up with the competitive job market.
Steve Dunsmore, the Lake Erie Lifeguard Manager said they have a 85 percent retention rate among staff, but are looking to fill five more slots for this summer.” Dunsmore explained how they try to keep up with other seasonal businesses, “A first year lifeguard this year will make $18.05 an hour, some of our more seasoned individuals who have been here a few years or our supervisors are making 20 or over 20 dollars an hour.”
They try to make it easy for people looking to job as a lifeguard According to Dunsmore, “We provide all the training. DCNR will pay you for your certifications and they will pay you to train.”…
