‘We’re already a struggling community’: Businesses in Ripley take a hit during bridge closure

RIPLEY, N.Y. (WIVB) — Businesses in the Southern Tier’s Town of Ripley said they’re struggling and that a nearby construction project, a bridge closure across the state line, is to blame.

The bridge, which carries Route 20 over Twenty Mile Creek, is located in North East Township between the interchange with Interstate 90 and the New York state line.

Bob Bentley, who manages Meeder’s Restaurant on East Main Street in Ripley, said since the Route 20 bridge closure, his restaurant is losing between $1,200 to $1,500 per day. Many of his customers travel from Pennsylvania, but with the closure, there is no longer a quick way for his costumers to get to the diner…
