Erie kids bring African folk tales State Street with dance and song

A group of children performed an original show tonight, turning a studio on State Street into the African savanna.

Students with the Dafmark Creative Arts Program put on their original Moonlight Tales show at the Dafmark Dance Theatre on State Street.

The show is based on traditional African folk tales, and the performers have been hard at work since January creating songs and dance numbers for the show.

“Our program, the Dafmark Creative Arts Center, is located in public housing at the John Horan Garden Apartments, and it gives access to all art forms to kids ages 6 and up, and to me it’s important that every child has access to arts regardless of cost,” said Jennifer Dennehy, the program director.

And some of the performers said they were a little nervous for the show, but ended up giving it their all on the stage…
