Historical Institute hosts event in celebration of Juneteenth

As the nation celebrates the emancipation of African Americans, a local museum is celebrating an anniversary.

Two years ago, the Historical Institute of Culture & the African American Experience held its first public showing.

Juneteenth celebrations at Erie VA aims to honor past, celebrate future

On Thursday night from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., the museum is observing Juneteenth with an event showcasing local artists and recognizing black culture.

The event also highlights local legends by partnering with the Hagan History Center for a special display.

Juneteenth Celebration takes place in Perry Square

“We want to share information, knowledge, through culture, through art, through expression, to let people know that you are free and there’s a certain amount of liberation that comes with expressing that through your creative juices through your creative capabilities. Juneteenth is about freedom.
