Air quality alert in place for Northern Erie and Southern Erie Monday

At 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service reported an air quality alert in effect until Monday at 9 p.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie.

“The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code ORANGE air quality alert for Monday, including Erie county. A code ORANGE air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity,” according to the weather service.
