One person transported after fire breaks out at east side home

One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after a fire broke out inside their east Erie home.

Calls for that fire in the 300 block of East 17th Street came in around 5:33 Tuesday evening, with the caller stating they were stuck inside the room of one of the apartments as flames spread.

What should you do if you see a child or pet left in a car during the summer?

According to Deputy Erie Fire Chief Fred Gillespie, firefighters were able to make their way inside and rescue the caller while making short work of the flames, extinguishing them in about 15 minutes.

The home’s occupant was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation…
