A grand opening ceremony took place Wednesday afternoon for a shelter that houses single women experiencing homelessness in Chautauqua County. The ribbon was cut at the Hope Haven Women’s Shelter at 303 Lafayette Street. The shelter, which officially opened in early April, provides 18 beds across 12 units for single adult homeless women. The $3.96 million project was funded primarily through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s Homeless Housing and Assistance Program. Additional funding was provided through federal HOME money, the city’s Community Development Block Grant, the Chautauqua County Land Bank, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
