(WJET/WFXP) – As the holiday weekend quickly approaches, one Presque Isle beach will have restricted swimming.
On Wednesday, July 2, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) announced that Beach 8 at Presque Isle will have restricted swimming due to an elevated E. coli count.

E. coli, or Escherichia coli, is a bacterium that is relatively harmless, but can cause illnesses such as traveler’s diarrhea when consumed in large amounts. It is also an indicator that there may be contamination in the water, which could pose a more serious threat.
After testing the water, which is done at least twice a week, the department found that Beach 8 had an E. coli count of 1,486.8, which surpasses the threshold for merely a swim advisory.
