Tips to keep your pets calm, safe during Fourth of July fireworks

As we enter the holiday weekend, those Fourth of July fireworks can be harmful to your pets.

One animal shelter director said the loud noises can be frightening for dogs, especially, triggering a “fight or flight” response.

She said oftentimes the loud booms can cause dogs to run away and get lost, and the shelter is preparing to take in some stray dogs.

In order to keep an eye on your dog, she recommends GPS collars and other tracking technology in case they do run away, but there are also ways to keep your pets calm and collected beforehand.

“There are things you can get from your veterinarian. There are certain sedatives and things like that you can have a discussion with your vet about.
