More traffic shifts, parking restrictions announced for downtown Erie

(WJET/WFXP)– The City of Erie has announced some changes to the flow of traffic to go with the shifts announced by PennDOT as construction moves to the next phase on Erie’s bayfront.

The city’s changes are set to go into effect a week before the part of State Street between Second Street and the Bayfront Parkway is set to close for the rest of the summer on July 21.

The shifts in traffic and parking will still be in effect for the listed roads and State Street when Tall Ships Erie comes to town. The city said they’re planning on having temporary pedestrian access on State Street from August 21-24.

The following changes will go into effect on Monday, July 14:

  • Sassafras Street Extension will only be open to emergency vehicles
  • West 3rd Street between Peach and Sassafras will be converted to a two-way street from a one-way street and street parking will not be allowed
  • No parking allowed on West 2nd between Peach Street to Sassafras Street, East 3rd Street from French Street to Holland Street, and Holland Street from East 3rd Street to East 6th Street

The city said they’re implementing the changes a week early so drivers have enough time to get used to them before State Street closes. A map of the affected streets can be seen below…
