A discarded cigarette was found to have triggered a fire at a building in the Village of Lakewood Monday morning. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says Lakewood Fire and Lakewood-Busti Police responded to the fire at 401 East Fairmount Avenue shortly after 7:30 AM. According to Lakewood Fire Chief Kurt Hallberg, police and fire crews used fire extinguishers, with firefighters also using a hand line when the flames began moving up the wall. Hallberg says the building sustained minimal damage, and no injuries were reported.
