A local homeless shelter made sure the community didn’t go hungry in downtown Erie on Monday.
The Upper Room on Peach Street hosted a cookout Monday afternoon, inviting anyone to come and grab a burger or a hot dog.

One board member said they do the cookout every year, and dozens of their clients showed up to support and grab a plate.
Although the event is a good way to fill stomachs, it’s also a way to connect with the community.

“I think part of it is the socializing, making sure that everybody knows or hangs out, comes together with board members, people who work here, the clients, people like that, anybody who’s walking by. We’ve had a couple of them swing through.
