Woman Charged with Violating Leandra’s Law, Leaving Scene of Mayville Crash

A Cattaraugus County woman faces multiple charges stemming from an investigation into a crash with injury in the Village of Mayville. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Erie Street and Chautauqua Street at about 3:15 PM Monday and learned that one of the vehicles involved had fled the scene. A short time later, the vehicle was located at the residence of 66-year-old Penny Payne of Portville. Deputies found that Payne was allegedly driving the vehicle while intoxicated and had a juvenile in her vehicle. She was charged with felony DWI under Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and failure to yield the right of way.
