Local, state officials tour former Erie Coke site

The uncertainty over the future of the former Erie Coke site continues, and on Thursday, some government officials got a tour of the property.

The Erie Port Authority, PA Department of Environmental Protection and several lawmakers came to the contaminated site on East Bay Drive to assess what’s left of the plot of land.

The secretary of the DEP said it’s going to take research, partnership and effort to restore such a large and polluted site.

She said the DEP is currently finalizing site characterization reports on the property, but it will take time to see any restoration.
