Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Home to host ceremony in honor of gravestone restoration project

The PA Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Home continues to honor its fallen veterans, and on Monday night, volunteers will finish up a two-year project to restore their resting place.

The home, located on East 3rd Street, is the only state veterans home in the country to operate an active cemetery, but with that status also comes routine maintenance.

Now, officials and volunteers with the home are marking an end to their gravestone restoration project, cleaning off the final headstone in a cemetery with over 1,300 graves.

Ken Vybiral, the home’s volunteer resources coordinator, said the project took countless hours and over 150 volunteers to make it happen.
