Volleyball Downs Edinboro in Five-Set Thriller

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women’s volleyball team extended its winning-streak to four games, defeating Edinboro in a five-set thriller at the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (7-3) notched 51 kills on the day with Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) leading the team with 16. Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) followed closely behind with 15 kills and Emily Gustie (Crofton, Md./Crofton) tallied eight on the day. Setters Jessica Rimbo (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and Erin Clark (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) combined for 38 assists in the match, with Clark recording a match-leading 25.

Three early kills from Kuehl in the first set helped to establish a 7-2 lead for the Huskies. Edinboro (5-4) posted four-straight points to close the gap before a back-and-forth exchange brought the score to 9-8 in favor of the maroon and gold. After two points from the Huskies, the Fighting Scots went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-11 lead. The two sides battled to a 23-20 lead for Edinboro. A kill from Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) kickstarted a comeback for Bloomsburg, scoring five straight to take the lead.
