Transitioning to Canvas and Veracross: A new era in education

In the past year, Cathedral Preparatory School has made substantial changes to its digital learning environment. The school decided to switch from Teams and MySchoolApp to Canvas and Veracross. This change was motivated by the goal of improving the learning experience for both students and teachers, making it more efficient and accessible. One of the key reasons for this change was the need for a more cohesive and user-friendly platform. Teams and MySchoolApp were effective during the initial phases of online learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as education progressed, it became clear that more specialized tools were needed.

Canvas emerged as a powerful learning management system that enables teachers to create engaging curricula, provide resources, and improve communication with students. Its design allows students to easily navigate and access their courses, assignments, and grades.

Moreover, Veracross adds another layer to this change by simplifying administrative duties. This platform combines different school operations, like enrollment, grading, and reporting, creating a more unified experience for administrators, teachers, students, and parents. For example, parents can monitor their child’s academic progress and interact with teachers all in one location, which strengthens the connection between home and school.

The use of Canvas and Veracross has not only boosted communication but has also improved the delivery of education. Teachers can now incorporate multimedia features in their lessons, such as videos, interactive quizzes, and discussion boards, making learning more engaging. Additionally, during this change, the school focused on providing training and support for both teachers and students.

Workshops were held to help everyone get used to the new systems, ensuring a seamless transition. Despite encountering some challenges, feedback from teachers, students, and parents has shown a positive response to the new platforms, highlighting increased participation and collaboration in class activities…
