Several Departments Battle Early Morning Blaze at County Landfill

An early morning blaze at the Chautauqua County Landfill in the Town of Ellery took about three hours to contain. That’s according to the Sinclairville Fire Department, which received mutual aid from eight other volunteer fire departments in responding to the fire shortly after 3:30 AM. In a Facebook post, Sinclairville Fire stated that a large-scale mutual aid response was immediately activated due to the size and nature of the location. After the area was secured, staff at the landfill were able to mitigate the fire at its source by deploying heavy equipment to cover the affected area with dirt. Sinclairville received assistance from Cassadaga, Stockton, Gerry, Ellery Center, Ellington, Ashville, Fluvanna and Falconer.
