Route 20 bridge in North East set to reopen

The Route 20 bridge over Twenty Mile Creek, located in North East, will soon be open after over a year of construction.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)’s target reopening date is Oct. 17.

The bridge, which is very close to the New York state line, was closed following a design analysis of the structure in February 2024.

PennDOT Press Officer Jill Harry said that, despite it being an emergency project, it’s a huge victory to be able to open the bridge next week.

“Route 20 isn’t part of the interstate system, but it is certainly an extremely important connection between that part of Erie County, New York, and all those travelers that come through that area for the wine country and other things,” Harry said. “So, it’s an extremely important bridge. We recognized it as an important bridge, which is why we expedited the process.”…
