(WJET/WFXP)– Erie County District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz has ruled that a fatal shooting involving Millcreek police this spring was justified and the officer will not face any charges.
The May 11 shooting happened at the Reserve at Millcreek apartment complex in the 1600 block of Treetop Drive, just after 7:15 p.m. and ended with the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Patrick Kanonczyk.

Hirz called the shooting and the officer’s actions reasonable acts of self-defense and defense of another, saying the officer’s belief that he and another officer were in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Erie County 911 received several calls about a man smashing out a car window with a hammer, along with an additional call stating that someone was trying to attack their girlfriend with a hammer…
